the first is more likely, when the little girl looked at him, the tao on his mind were missing. i don't think gabimaru would fall from genjutsu relating to love. if he was really being decieved by the clan, then it must be physical love with a real person but was used to manipulate him emotionally.

Nah. In one of his memories, he grabbed his wife's hand and she suddenly disappeared. It was an intact memory even though Tao disappeared from his head. You can cast genjutsu on the tao or chakra or whatever aura but the Tao on Gabimaru's head was disappeared. Memories are inside brain. Which is not entirely linked with Tao. So its most likely genjutsu.

It was confirmed in the Light Novel he has a waifu.

it is linked in the tao. if you remember the yellow-haired guy who got a blind right eye, when his tao had been shown to us, it was similar to gabimaru, and also it wasn't just the memory of his wife that he lost. something happened to his brain while using too much of his power add on the damage that he accumulated. Or maybe it was genjutsu but something else.
